Do you feel frustrated talking to friends and family? Are you continually asking, “What? What?” Has the average volume on your TV or car radio consistently gotten louder over the years? Then you may be experiencing hearing loss.
Whether due to age, environmental noise, or even individual health conditions and medications, hearing loss affects millions of people in the U.S. each year. Sometimes its progression is so gradual, you don’t even notice until it’s too late to treat.
The best way to find out if you have hearing loss is an audiology test. A hearing test can not only check if you have hearing loss but can tell you how bad it is and even what kind.
At Sidney Sound & Hearing Services, we offer comprehensive hearing tests for adults and children. You’ll benefit from trained hearing professionals who can administer and interpret hearing loss tests, from the tried-and-true to the latest-and-greatest.
Some of the more common types of hearing tests we offer at Sidney Sound & Hearing Services include:
- Pure tone audiometry: The “gold standard” of hearing tests, pure tone audiometry checks hearing by playing sounds through headphones. The patient indicates when he or she hears the sound.
- Otoacoustic emissions: This test measures the function of the inner ear—specifically, the vibrations given off in response to sound stimulus by hair cells, the tiny structures that convert sound waves to electrical input for the auditory nerve.
- Speech test: Your hearing care professional will test your ability to hear and repeat words spoken at different sound thresholds. This is sometimes done in conjunction with background noise.
If you suspect you may be experiencing hearing loss, request an appointment with Sidney Sound & Hearing Services. Our hearing care professionals will administer various hearing tests and help you understand how hearing loss affects you and your options for treating it.
